ANGEL
The cross in the road doesn't mean you have to go straight. Think before you decide.
We meet Angel...
The day before going to court.
Angel had been to court six times over the last six months and each time her soon to be ex-husband Emmanuel, was there googling at her like she was a piece of meat. He didn't want to get a divorce despite his years of infidelities, he wanted the big house, the nice cars and the reputation of being a good husband without putting any work into the relationship. After they dated for 15 years and being married for 10-years their relationship had hit rock bottom.
Angel was tired. She was tired of putting on fronts after Emmanuel stayed out all night, again. She was tired of pretending it was the bitches fault after finding another card, photo or phone call. Emmanuel's time was up. At forty-eight, she was fed up with all the lies and the secrets. She wanted back everything that belonged to her. She had worked hard over the years, had built their lives into one that could be respected. She had continued a relationship with Emmanuel while he served five years in prison. When he got out he cheated. She helped him get jobs and keep jobs, all the while, he cheated. Once he received a steady position at a warehouse driving a forklift things changed. Then he became a family man. Year after year he came home from work happy to have a family, happy to finally be a man. They went to church together, went on vacations and their family grew all because he was able to sustain life.
Things changed after Emmanuel lost his position. After eight-years, he was promoted to Supervisor, the only caveat was he had to relocate to Shiloh Hill, a town two hours away from Bethill, the town where they lived. Angel wanted what was best for Emmanuel. Their children were grown and nothing held them in Bethill, not even her position as she worked from home. She followed Emmanuel to Shiloh Hill. When she had to go into the office she stayed with Jessica, their daughter. Things were good at first. They saved a great deal of money and had a house built. Angel was going up—she was promoted to Manager. It was then Emmanuel lost his position. The company went out of business. Emmanuel was devastated. Just like that he was out of a job and that one switch, gave him time and motive to have affairs.
Women crawled out the wood works and instead of Emmanuel admitting his faults, he lied. When Angel asked him to leave he refused to walk away. He put up a fight. Angel wanted him out so bad, she went to his job and attacked him. This gave him the chance to get back at her, to have her put out of the new home for Domestic Abuse. He tried to have Angel arrested, but the police made him leave that day. Angel was more than determined to beat him antics. That day the police gave them both a letter to appear in court to settle the matter. Angel knew she was in a good position, she had the letters, cards and photos from his mistresses. Things he’d left in the shed. If she had her way he would be the one leaving, and leaving for good.
The day they went to court, Angel was confident things were going to work in her favor, but she needed to say a prayer, hear a word from the Lord just to be sure.
